The Bergen County Environmental Council has adopted Van Saun Mill Brook in Van Saun Park, Paramus. The Council does annual cleanups of the stream, and conducts biological monitoring three times a year.
The results are sent to NJDEP. In addition, the Council has restored 250 feet of stream bank by the playground in Van Saun Park.
The work was done in three separate plantings with the help of many volunteers, including those from Genzyme Biosurgery and the Master Gardeners. Alan Koenig, Landscape Architect for the Bergen County Parks Dept., supervised all three plantings.
The council wrote and was awarded a 319(h) grant from the NJDEP for $100,000 to repair a collapsed stream bank wall in Van Saun Park. The Parks Department will administer the grant.
