“CLIFFHANGER POINT” PIP Winter History Hike

Sunday, March 4, 2018

On Sunday afternoon, hikers meet with historical interpreter Eric Nelsen for a Winter History Hike (less than 2 miles, about 1 1/2 hrs., on easy trails) which will take participants on a rich historical journey. Hikers will stop at the site of the fabled Riviera nightclub, which began operation shortly after the George Washington opened to traffic in the 1930s, and then go on to “Cliffhanger Point.” This precipice on the Palisades was immortalized in a 1918 publicity shot of Pearl White, the actress famous for playing the eponymous Pauline in the "Perils of Pauline." (After that 1914 blockbuster, White — whose birthday was the same date as this hike, March 4 — starred in a number of classic serials that were shot along the Palisades at Fort Lee. ) On the return hike, hikers may take an optional stroll with the group out onto the GW Bridge walkway to enjoy the spectacular views offered from that location. The FLH Park entrance is off Hudson Terrace just south of the GW Bridge.
