Artist and Hackensack resident, Poramit Thantapalit has installed an exhibition: "Life Under the Sea", Mixed Media and Cyanotype at the Johnson Public Library. It consists of artwork from the artist's creative output over the past 5 years and combines recycled materials and cyanotype. Mr. Thantapalit turns what most people consider "trash" into fantastic reinterpretations. Some objects used are: plastic bottles, cardboard, wood, paper, wires, electrical cords, computer parts and used clothing. The artist repurposes these everyday scraps into objects of great beauty and worth. Don't miss this opportunity to get a glimpse into this talented artist's imagination. Mining the depths of Venezuelan and Cuban folkloric music and infusing it with shimmering language of bossa nova and the gritty force of flamenco, Rodriguez and Lopez have created an compelling and haunting mix of original compositions and arrangements that is unlike other guitar duos. Using the unusual combination of flamenco and classical guitar as well as guitar and the Cuban tres (three string Cuban guitar) coupled with Latin percussion, they create rhythmic and harmonic textures both innovative and accessible. The duo’s repertoire includes original music composed by Lopez and Rodriguez as well as their re-workings of classic Cuban boleros from the 40’s and 50’s and other lesser-known Latin gems. With a Pre-concert lecture: The Guitar in Fine Arts by Jim Tosone, author of Classical Guitarists: Conversations. Post-concert reception immediately follows concert.
