  1. Oakland Public Library Art Exhibit: "With Love for Nature"

    Oakland's own Siegi Lehmann, will exhibit her photography and digital art at the Oakland Library during the month of May through mid-June. The exhibit is titled With Love for Nature Her work has been featured in the NYTimes, professional magazines and books. Ms. Lehmann taught photo restoration at the American Photo Corporation in NYC and freelances in photo restoration, commercial art and commissioned artwork. Her major influences are "life, the beauty of nature, our world, and its inhabitants."

  2. bergenPAC's Sandy Bennett Art Gallery presents: The 14th Annual YCS Blossoms Art Exhibit

    Students from YCS special education schools, therapeutic group homes and community-based programs will showcase their talents in an array of mixed mediums, including water color paintings, paper mache art, 3-D group projects, poetry and more. Year after year, the children’s artwork has earned a reputation for touching the hearts of viewers. Fittingly, this year’s theme is “Celebrate with the joy of art with us!” A mixed chorus will perform at the awards presentation on Saturday May, 27. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Youth Consultation Service, better known as YCS, has been caring for vulnerable children with special needs throughout New Jersey for nearly 100 years.   3. Mahwah Museum Exhibits: "Mahwah's Herstory" & " Medicine in Mahwah"

    “Mahwah’s Herstory: The Changing Roles of Women in Mahwah’s History”, examines the role of women in Mahwah’s history, starting with its first settler, Blandina Bayard, and continuing through to 1960. It highlights women’s activities, including pioneering and farming, changing roles in the workforce, and women’s accomplishments in the arts, in charitable organizations and in social reforms. “Medicine in Mahwah” highlights the history of medicine in Mahwah. It examines the growth and development of the medical field with highlights on Mahwah’s practitioners, their methods, and instruments throughout various periods.

  4. Dance: Shen Yun: "Experience a Divine Culture"

    THE AUTHENTIC CHINESE culture Shen Yun presents can’t be seen in another show or even in China. There, the Communist Party sees traditional culture as a threat to its power and for decades has tried to destroy it. It nearly succeeded. But in 2006, a group of elite Chinese artists came together in New York with a mission—to revive traditional culture and share it with the world. They created Shen Yun and brought this majestic culture back from the brink of extinction.

  5. Bergen Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert "All for Love" at Ft. Lee H. S.

    The Bergen Symphony Orchestra presents a spring concert "All for Love" featuring guest soloist soprano Sooyeon Kim. The program will begin with “Adagietto” Fourth Movement from Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) a love letter to his wife, Alma, which is scored only for strings and harp. This movement has found its way into the popular canon in movies, commercials, and in Leonard Bernstein's funeral mass for Robert Kennedy. The concluding piece will be Symphony No. 8 in G major, Opus 88, by Antonín Dvorák which draws its inspiration from Bohemian folk music and is an excellent example of Dvorák’s ability to bring the countryside and its people to life. The BSO, a 55-piece orchestra, is made up of professional musicians from the greater New York/New Jersey area. Its mission is to provide a high quality classical music experience that will not only enhance the cultural life of the community, & educate and encourage the next generation to love the music.

  1. Adult Care Brief Drive

    In honor of Older American's Month in May, the Bergen County Administration Building will be a collection site for adult care briefs. Collection bins will be located throughout the building where packages can be deposited. The products donated will be distributed to the clients of agencies such as Meals On Wheels of Bergen County, Visiting Homemaker Home Health Aide Service of Bergen County, and the Center of Food Action of Bergen County.
