  1. Under the Shad Moon, Chwame Gischuch • Lenape New Year

    April 22, 2018, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Historic New Bridge Landing

    The Bergen County Historical Society celebrates "Under the Shad Moon, Chwame Gischuch, the Lenape New Year." 1:30 pm: Dr. Meta Janowitz will speak on Native American food ways, as they relate to the Dutch. She will introduce ceramic forms that were used by the Dutch and traded with the Native Americans. 2:30 pm: Primitive Technologist Steve Adams will give a talk on The Material Culture of Prehistory. Adams will talk on the use of stone tools; their manufacture (flintknapping), forms for different functions, re-usage/re-sharpening sequences, the 'waste flake' pile of expedient tools and the changing stone tool forms through time. His talk will move outside to demonstrate flintknapping. Selections from the BCHS Native American collections are on exhibit. Visit the outkitchen where reenactors will be cooking over a fire. The event includes activities for children.

  2. Verismo Opera's Debut of Giacomo Puccini's Spectacular Turandot at the Bergen Performing Arts Center

    Tickets are on sale to see Verismo Opera's debut of Giacomo Puccini's spectacular Turandot on April 22, 2018 at the Bergen Performing Arts Center at 3:00 p.m. The opera is sung in Italian with English supertitles provided. The complete cast performs in period costume. Presented in three acts, the new production of Puccini’s masterful work features traditional staging and magnificent Sormani designed sets. The cast sings in Italian with English supertitles provided. Tenor Giovanni Simone will perform the role of Emperor. The opera, completed by Franco Alfano, uses a libretto in Italian by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simon. Purchase tickets at the box office, 30 N. Van Brunt St. in Englewood, New Jersey.   3. Thurnauer Chamber Music Series: Happy Birthday, Leonard Bernstein!

    Leonard Bernstein was born on August 25, 1918. To celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday, we present this all Bernstein program of chamber music including a piano trio written in 1937 while he was a student at Harvard University, Meditation from Mass written at the request of Jackie Kennedy for the inauguration of the Kennedy Center, several songs including one written for children called “I Hate Music” and, of course, an arrangement for violin and piano of the iconic music from West Side Story. Courtenay Budd, soprano; Sharon Roffman, violin; Clancy Newman, cello; Thomas Sauer, piano. Series made possibly by a generous contribution from Eva Holzer and the Konikow Chamber Music Fund.

Mortified, Theo swears to keep her at home until she can find some less unruly undies. Amid this chaos he's trying to rent a room in their flat. The prospective lodgers have some underlying surprises of their own. In The Underpants, Steve Martin brings his comic genius and sophisticated literary style to Carl Sternheim's classic 1910 farce.
