    June 16, 2018, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Gethsemane Cemetery

The historic African American Gethsemane Cemetery, a County Historic Site in Little Ferry, will be open during Bergen County’s 2018 Juneteenth Celebration. It is open for self-guided tours all after noon. At 2:15, historian Arnold Brown will lead a guided tour. Gethsemane Cemetery is a 1-acre sandy hill located west of the Hackensack River. It was entered onto the National Register of Historic Places because of the significant role it played in the enactment of NJ’s early civil rights legislation, as well as containing evidence of West African burial customs. The County's Juneteenth Celebration will be held 10 am–8 pm in Bergen County’s New Overpeck County Park, Ridgefield. There will be entertainment, food, children’s games, cultural and historic displays, vendors, exhibitors and family reunions. For information email Arnold Brown at This is the 153rd anniversary of Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the U.S.
