Volunteer Opportunities

The Bergen County Zoo offers several opportunities for volunteering:


Animal Keeper - The zoo has a diverse animal collection with specific needs, this program offers Senior High school and college students an opportunity to work with an Animal Keeper. Volunteers will work with an Animal Keeper providing daily routine husbandry for the animals. Applicants should send their resume to Megan Tedeschi, Supervisor of Animal Keepers, at mtedeschi@co.bergen.nj.us.


Animal Hospital - The zoo is home to 200 species of North and South American animals, all requiring veterinary care.  This program is for Senior high school students and college students wanting to gain more experience in Veterinarian Studies. Volunteers will work in our Animal Hospital alongside our staff providing daily animal care.  Applicants should send their resume to Cindy Norton, Animal Curator, at cnorton@co.bergen.nj.us.


Docent (Must be at least 18 years old) The zoo receives many visitors a day, docents get trained to give tours, speak to visitors, and help out with special events. If you are interested in becoming a docent please fill out the application and send in to Melissa Czinn at MCzinn@co.bergen.nj.us. Applications are due February 12th.
