Rules & Guidelines

  • Animal feeding -

    for their health and your safety, feeding of any animals in the zoo is prohibited. The animals are all on specially formulated and prepared diets.
  • Bicycles / skateboards / scooters -

    these are not permitted inside the zoo. Feel free to leave them at the zoo entrance and pick them up on your way out.
  • Pets -

    with the exception of service animals, pets are not permitted within the zoo.
  • Zoo barriers -

    these are here for the safety of both you and the animals. Do not cross any railing, fence, or other barrier as this can be very dangerous.


Services Available

  • Animal donations -

     while we will help you find an appropriate outlet, the zoo does not accept injured or orphaned wildlife or unwanted pets.
  • First aid - 

    first aid can be secured at the zoo entrance (see a security officer) or at the zoo office.
  • Food/drink - 

    carts offering a variety of food and drink are located at the entry plaza and in other locations throughout the park. Food service available during the summer.
  • Gift shop -

     the general store is located on the zoo's entry plaza, just inside the zoo gate. Store hours limited during off season, call 201-634-3100, ext.3117, for store hours.
  • Restrooms -

     located in the Farmyard, as well as inside the Education / Discovery Center.
  • Strollers -

     stroller rentals are available at the general store.


Birthday Parties

Birthday Party General Information:

The Bergen County Zoo offers birthday parties for children turning 5 years old or older. Birthday parties are held in the Education Center Building in one of the private classrooms. The party package consists of a two-hour program in which the first 40-45 minutes is a fun and educational portion. The maximum children allowed in the party is no more than 20.

The Birthday Party Program includes the following:

  • Invitations for 20 children (serving as zoo admission ticket for one child and one adult).
  • Food for the party guest, to be served by the parent party host (3 large pizzas, 24 cupcakes and 24 juice boxes). For additional pizza pies, please contact the party coordinator. All paper products are included.
  • Live animal demonstrations for a total of three (3) animals. Animals are to be selected from the lists found on the birthday party brochure.
  • A fun and educational birthday party activity selected by the party host. There are three (3) birthday activities to choose from which are found on the birthday party brochure.
  • Canvas craft bags (one per child up to 20 children). Included in the craft bag is a complimentary Train and Carousel Ticket. Train/Carousel rides are not part of the two-hour program; they are to be used after the party and are good until the end of the year.
  • A special gift from our demonstration animals for the party child.

Party Fees:

The party cost is $300 for Bergen County residents and for zoo members; $350 for non-residents.

Book a Party:

Birthday parties are booked on a first come-first served basis. In order to secure a party date, you must submit a completed application along with a $50 non-refundable deposit to the party coordinator. Applications, with the deposit fee, can be dropped off in person or mailed to the Bergen County Zoo - 216 Forest Avenue - Paramus, NJ.  Forms of payment are cash or check only; checks are to be made payable to the Bergen County Zoo.
