Principal Data Processing Systems Programmer - County of Bergen Department of Administration and Finance - Division of Information Technology

Under direction, the SQL Programmer controls and maintains the highly technical computer operating systems associated with computers and directs the operations, systems, and programming function toward optimum utilization of available hardware and software; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities (may include but not limited to)

  • Manage databases to allow secure and easy access to stored databases for authorized users. Oversee the creation of improved structure and design of these databases, customizing them to meet specific needs of users.
  • Coordinate and develop working relationships with IT users to support and develop in-house applications in a cross-functional environment.
  • Backup SQL Server databases.
  • Database design and management.
  • Development of VB applications with MS Access as the front end and SQL Server as the back end.
  • Develop MS Access applications including data modeling, and creation of tables, queries, forms, reports, and macros.
  • Develop and maintain web-based applications in VB.NET.
  • Prepares clear, technically sound, and accurate reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Directs the maintenance of records and files.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Experience/Other Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience as a SQL Server Developer, SQL Database Programmer and MS Access programmer.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PHP.
  • Experience with JavaScript (knowledge and understanding). Need to be able to collaborate with back-end web developers.
  • Experience creating stored procedures, functions, views, and SSIS packages.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Access (MS Access 2010 - Office 365).
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Access VBA programming.
  • Proficient in developing and maintaining SQL databases, programming in MS Access, and developing web-based applications, preferably using PHP language and JavaScript for the front end and SQL Server as the back end.
  • Proficiency in SQL Queries. Experience in writing complex queries.
  • Basic understanding of front-end languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Problem-solving skills.
