Housing Assistance Technician - County of Bergen Department of Administration and Finance Division of Community Development

Under direction, manages an application-based first-time homebuyer and down payment assistance program.

Job Responsibilities (may include but not limited to)

  • Explain to applicants/program participants the purpose of the program, eligibility requirements, and application procedures; answer all questions and work directly with applicants and participating banks through to the point of home sale/duration of loan.
  • Assess loan applications and determine a potential borrower's financial viability.
  • Work with banks participating in the program regarding residential mortgage eligibility/underwriting requirements, bank loan procedures, and all other operations related to the purchase/sale closing for a new home.
  • Manage federal grant record keeping/reporting and ongoing implementation of mandated compliance guidelines.
  • Perform community outreach/networking and organize/promote online/in-person informational events for new homebuyers.
  • Work with senior and relevant staff on technical questions concerning eligibility requirements, application processing, and financial assistance to resolve problems.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Background working with low-to-moderate-income residents looking to buy a new home.
  • Experience/coursework with affordable housing, residential real estate, mortgage financing, and financial statement assessment.

Schedule:

  • Full time with occasional weeknights and Saturdays.

Other:

  • Applicant must be able to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in Spanish and English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
