Assistant Personnel Technician – County of Bergen Department of Administration & Finance - Division of Personnel

Under direction assists with work involved in varied personnel transactions relating to disability benefits and workers compensation, carrying out administrative processes associated with overseeing and maintaining all disability benefit programs and workers compensation claims; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):

  • Receive and process disability transactions, including enrollments, terminations, and other benefit changes.
  • Receive and process first report of injury  and workers’ compensation claims.
  • Transaction processing will include interfacing with/entering data into Bergen County’s payroll system.
  • Establish and maintain disability and workers compensation files.
  • Prepare OSHA report for submission, annually.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence for workers’ compensation claims and disability benefit related mailings.
  • Maintains accurate logging records for workers’ compensation claims.
  • Prepare and submit monthly invoice for disability benefit related bills.
  • Receive and respond to disability benefit related inquiries and workers compensation claims, as needed.
  • Advise employees  of their disability options.
  • Perform member outreach (via phone call and/or email), as needed.
  • Guide employees through their disability benefit claims.
  • Support the coordination of annual employee benefit and job fairs.
  • Assist with family leave administration (FMLA, FLA) as required.
  • Assist with pre-employment and onboarding processes as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

  • Full time - Monday to Friday (in person required)
  • 40 hours/week

Education Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, and Excel programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work well in a cooperative, team-oriented environment.
  • Effective multi-tasker with strong organizational skills.
