Assistant Health Officer – County of Bergen – Department of Health Services

Develop, coordinate, and manage the work programs of the county health department and assume the duties of the Assistant Health Officer and supervise staff in the absence of the County Health Officer; does other related duties as required:

Knowledge and Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

  • Take the lead over the Division of Public Health.
  • Serve as a liaison to contracting municipalities.
  • Participate in the coordination of public health policies and plans.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain records and files.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local public health laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, policies, standards and procedures and their application to specific situations.
  • Knowledge of techniques used in public health administration.
  • Knowledge of the records required in a public health program.

Schedule:

  • 40hrs/wk.
  • As needed, on call rotation of evenings, holidays, and weekends

Education & Experience:

  • Valid New Jersey Health Officer (HO) license.

Skills and Special Requirements:

  • Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn/utilize various types of manual and/or electronic data systems used within the department.
