Supervising Substance Abuse Counselor - County of Bergen Department of Health Services – Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services
Under the direction of a supervisory official, plans, develops and supervises counseling components necessary for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients suffering from drug addiction; to engage special populations, such as various ethnic and racial communities and individuals that identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community; performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge and Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)
- Knowledge about populations that have been historically marginalized or under-represented in treatment.
- Knowledge of counseling techniques.
- Knowledge of the types of training and supportive therapy required for substance abuse.
- Participate in supervision and team meetings.
- Participate in Division community outreach initiatives.
- Engage and collaborate with stakeholders and communities to promote awareness and resources.
- Maintain clinical records/project documentation in accordance with requirements.
- Provide individual, group and family counseling and didactic sessions.
- Conduct clinical intakes as assigned.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Education Requirements:
- Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC), issued by the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Department of Law and Public Safety.

Other:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a clinical treating substance use disorder.
- Valid New Jersey (NJ) Driver’s License
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent computer skills.
