Veterinarian - Division of Animal Services
Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is an open-admission, municipal shelter taking in about 5,000 animals annually. We are committed to providing compassionate and humane care for the animals promoting the cause of animal welfare within our community. We adhere to a no-kill philosophy under the guidelines of the Asilomar Accords.
Essential Duties:
- Supervise State mandated disease control program with a solid understanding of “herd health” and having the ability to review and update standard operating procedures.
- Complete intake exams, daily rounds, diagnose and provide treatment plans for shelter animals.
- Ability to perform high volume spay/neuter procedures, dentals/extractions, enucleations, mass removals and/or other procedures as needed.
- Support and promote TNR program to the shelter community.
- Oversee the secure use of and record keeping for controlled substances in accordance with DEA, State and Federal regulations.
- Must be highly organized, detail oriented with the ability to prioritize using sound judgement while working in a sensitive, emotionally charged environment.
- Coordinate free and low-cost public vaccine clinics.
Requirements:
- Be a resident of New Jersey with a current New Jersey Veterinary License
- DEA License
- Per Diem position (up to 29 hours per week) with weekend availability
