Advanced Practice Nurse – County of Bergen (Juvenile Detention Center & Youth Shelter) Department of Human Services - Division of Family Guidance

Under direction, provides primary health care to patients by assessing their physical, developmental, and psycho-social status by means of obtaining their health history and conducting physical examinations and diagnostic tests; interprets test results data, develops and implements plans of health care management and follow through on the continuum of care of patients; implements health care plans through independent action, appropriate referrals, health counseling, guidance, and instruction of patients and collaboration with a physician and other members of the health care team; does related work as required.

Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

• Assess the physical, developmental, and psycho-social health status of individuals in a variety of settings through collection of health data.
• Prescribe medications as necessary.
• Review medical standing protocols and provide recommendations.
• Medication administration and monitoring the effects of prescribed and over-the-counter medication.
• Conduct sick call.
• Replenish medication and set up individual doses.
• Performs complete medical physical for new admissions or as needed examinations, which includes but is not limited to observation, taking blood pressure, weight, height, and blood samples, palpation, percussion, and auscultation, utilizing the appropriate tools and instruments.
• Records patients responses and progress; maintains medical records as necessary.
• Complete Sharps Count.
• Train non-medical direct care staff in medication dispensing and first aid.
• Train residents on healthy eating habits and behaviors.
• Schedule medical appointments as necessary.
• Provide oversight and supervision to other medical personnel.

Schedule:                             

• Full Time - Monday through Friday 8:00 – 4:30.

Education & Licensing Requirements:     

• Master’s Degree in Nursing.
• License in the State of New Jersey as Advance Practice Nurse.

Other Requirements:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working with at- risk populations and /or residential setting preferred.
• Computer literacy (MS Excel and Word).
• Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate weekdays, weekends, holidays.
