Community Service Aide – Hotline Support - County of BergenDepartment of Human Services Division Alternatives to Domestic Violence

Under supervision of the Crisis Supervisor, the hotline specialist will respond to hotline calls, offering crisis intervention, information, and referrals to survivors of domestic violence; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

  • Provide support/back-up to 24/7 hotline.
  • Answer hotline calls, schedule needed appointments, and document interventions.
  • Ability to identify the client’s needs and to refer individuals to supportive services.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions with callers.
  • Collaborate with other agency staff to ensure seamless services.

Schedule:

  • Per Diem – up to 29 hours per week.
  • Availability for per diem shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education/Qualifications Requirements:

  • Completion of at least 60 credits from an accredited college or university; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Empathy, compassion, and commitment to supporting survivors.

Other Requirements:

  • Experience and knowledge working with individuals with disabilities (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel programs.
  • Exemplary time management and organizational skills.
  • Culturally Competent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work well in a cooperative, team-oriented environment.
  • Bilingual language skills are a plus.
