Director of Family Counseling – County of Bergen Department of Human Services – Division of Family Guidance

Under direction, plans, develops, and organizes a program of family counseling services; oversees/supervises staff on a day-to-day operation, by providing family counseling services on a variety of economic, social, or other contemporary issues, ensuring clinical best practices, and interfacing with other County Departments and agencies in support of the Division’s mission and objectives; does related work.

Job Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):

  • Provide supervision as directed to professional and para-professional staff.
  • Ensures adherence to documentation requirements as identified by regulatory agencies.
  • Review/revise procedure manuals to ensure that treatment plans, case notes and other written correspondence are in compliance with standards.
  • In collaboration with program supervisors, oversee the audit of clinical charts to ensure adherence to standards of practice.
  • Provide direction and oversight of evidenced based practices that are found to be effective in providing care to at-risk youth.
  • Analyzes issues and develops effective solutions to promote and provide safe, trauma-informed care to clients.
  • Reviews and assigns cases to counselors.
  • Provides advice and guidance to counseling staff.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of program services.
  • Collaborate in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Participate in grant writing projects as necessary.
  • Participate in administrative team meetings.
  • Remain available on off hours for staff/client issues.
  • Work with supervisors and staff at all levels of the Division to explore solutions, resolve problems, redistribute current resources, and change priorities to meet the changing program needs of the Division.
  • Perform other clinical and supervisory duties as assigned.

Schedule:

  • Full-time

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in social work or a doctorate in psychology.
  • Maintenance of full licensure in appropriate discipline is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years post-licensure experience supervising clinical and supervisory staff.
  • Experience in clinical assessment, child/adolescent development, and family dynamics.
  • Residential and/or juvenile justice experience preferred.

Other:

  • Strong interpersonal/leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn web-based data systems.
  • Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
