Lead Poisoning Inspector - County of Bergen – Department of Health

Under direction, performs routine work involved in inspecting residences that are suspected sources of lead poisoning does other related duties as required

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of issues involved in making investigations of suspected lead poisoning areas
  • Capability in comprehension of rules and regulations
  • Ability to interview individuals while using tact and courtesy in making investigations
  • Knowledge of preparing reports
  • Proficiency in maintaining essential records, files, and the utilizing various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems  

Example/s of Work – may include but are not limited to:

  • Inspects buildings and dwellings for possible sources of lead poisoning
  • Collects samples of paint to be analyzed by a laboratory
  • Reinspects entire buildings with positive samples are discovered and collects samples from each dwelling unit for testing and reinspects dwellings after completion of repairs to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Confers with individual property owners relevant to service of notices and violations
  • Attends meetings and prepares reports
  • Presents inspections findings in court cases
  • Maintains supplies

Schedule:

  • 40 hours per week

Education/Licensure:

  • Applicants will be required to posses a Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor Permit issued by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services
  • Applicants must posses a valid New Jersey driver’s license
