Social Worker – County of Bergen Department of Human Services – Division of Veterans Services

Under direct supervision will assist in leading and managing the social services division by performing office and field work required by providing continuing preventive and rehabilitative social services to veterans and their families; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Complete intakes from Veterans, Surviving Spouses, and their children.
  • Manage the Veterans database tracker.
  • Attend outreach events.
  • Assist Veterans and families in completing necessary paperwork required to enroll in public and community programs.
  • Conduct field visits to Veterans and surviving spouses who do not have the ability to leave their home due to disability.
  • Working together with other team members to address Veteran and family needs.
  • Guide Veterans and families with housing search and employment placement.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
  • Work closely with the Director and Veterans Service Officer to ensure the veterans receive the best care possible.

Schedule:

  • Full-time.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social science or related field.
  • Minimum two years’ experience working with Veterans and Social Services.

Other Requirements:

  • Veteran preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, data systems and technology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work well in a cooperative, team-oriented environment.
  • Effective multi-tasker.
  • New Jersey Driver’s License.
