Dietitian – County of Bergen Department of Human Services - Division of Senior Services
Registered dietician plans diets and develops and implements dietary plans based on nutritional assessment and the special nutritional needs of individuals; does related work as required.
Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)
- Monitor and evaluate food safety in the preparation, packaging, and delivery of congregate and home delivered meals.
- Monitor (periodically) home delivery routes for acceptability of temperature, quality and food safety of home delivered meals as received by the client.
- Plans diets and supervises the preparation and serving of regular and therapeutic diets to individuals prescribed by medical staff in order to meet the nutritional needs of such individuals.
- Develop and/or identify nutrition education materials and presentations relative to the needs of older adults (for use with homebound and congregate meal provision). Coordinate and approve nutrition education programs for congregate nutrition sites.
- Conduct, and/or coordinate nutrition education programs for participants at each nutrition program site and distribute literature to homebound participants, at least quarterly.
- Congregate Nutrition Programs (county and municipal) operate between 8:30-3:00 pm Monday – Friday. Must be available for nutrition education programs during these hours of operation.
- Conduct and/or coordinate and evaluate in-service training for nutrition staff and volunteers annually.
- Identify and coordinate nutrition education materials to be distributed to homebound participants monthly (minimum of quarterly).
- Provide Nutritional Counseling in-home, Zoom or telephone for frail, elderly seniors who need counseling services, on a priority basis to enhance and improve nutritional well-being. Also provide counseling services to individuals with a disability 18 years of age and older (or caregivers on behalf of participants) to enhance and improve health and nutritional status. Maintain a record of completed services.
- Compile Federal and State data collection requirements and generate reports for monthly, quarterly and annual nutrition reports.
- Coordinate and evaluate annual Nutrition Screenings of HDM and congregate participants.
- Represent the Division of Senior Services Nutrition Program and participate in community wellness events and health fairs.
- Maintain ServSafe or National Registry of Food Safety Professionals Food Manager Certification. Must have knowledge, experience and certification of safe food handling policies and procedures to provide in-service training for center staff and volunteers.
- Perform all related tasks to ensure efficient operation of programs under the DSS Nutrition and Wellness unit including congregate, and home delivered meal programs.
Schedule:
- Per-Diem / Monday – Friday
Education & Licensing Requirements:
- Three (3) years of recent, relevant experience working with older adults in a food and nutrition related capacity. (possession of a Master’s Degree in Foods and Nutrition, or Institutional Management (may be substituted for 1 year of work experience).
- Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and possess current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Other Requirements:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy (MS Excel and Word).
- Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
