Intermittent Clerk Typist - Senior Services (benefit screener)
The Bergen County Division of Senior Services is hiring intermittent (temporary) Benefit Screeners for a temporary, grant-funded program. The Benefit Screeners will assist Medicare beneficiaries to access benefit programs. Screening sessions will occur in the Hackensack office and at locations throughout Bergen County.
Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)
- Conduct in-person or phone screening with consumers to determine eligibility for benefits and programs.
- Composes and types simple correspondence.
- Assists with filling out online or paper applications with consumers, uploading or copying documents, request missing documents.
- Contact clients to monitor progress, confirm receipt of benefits, address any additional needs.
- Prepares and keeps accurate records and reports.
- Conduct outreach services to serve a diverse client population.
- Gives information according to department regulations and referrals to additional services.
- Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of client information.
- Maintains essential records and files.
- Other program-related tasks as needed.
- Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Experience assisting older adults and caregivers is preferred.
Schedule:
- Per-Diem (20-25 hours per week).
- Primarily morning to early afternoons / Occasional evenings and weekends.
- Period: December 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.
Other:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to effectively use internet-based tools and applications.
- Strong verbal communication skills and active listening skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and attention to detail skills.
- Multilingual capability in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Korean or Polish is preferred.
- Valid New Jersey driver's license and ability to travel to various locations within Bergen County (one site per day).
