Food Service Worker - Per Diem up to 29 hours per week - Division of Senior Services, Department of Human Services

Organizational Overview:

The Bergen County Division of Senior Services is the primary agency in Bergen County that plans and coordinates services for county residents aged 60 and above, and their caregivers. The Division and its various committees advocate for those with the greatest economic and social needs.

Job Description:           

This employment opportunity is to serve as a Food Service Worker at one of our 10 County-run senior activity centers.  Under the direction of Food Service Supervisor, or other supervisory official, does the less complicated tasks involved in preparing and serving food, and/or in cleaning food service facilities and equipment; does other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:              

  • Acts as general assistant in a kitchen
  • Keeps the kitchen or other areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition at all times.
  • Serves food from steam tables or from other cooking utensils and arranges and delivers trays.
  • Waits on tables.
  • Delivers food to dining rooms.
  • Sets tables, changes table linens, and counts dishes, linen, and silverware.
  • Washes dishes, trays, pots, pans, silverware, and other kitchen and food service equipment.
  • Washes floors, walls, and linoleum in kitchen, dining room, and food storage area.
  • Waxes floors.
  • Washes and polishes ranges, roasters, broilers, milk cans, and other equipment.
  • Receives and stores food supplies.

Schedule:   Per Diem Up to 29 hours / Monday through Friday 9:00AM -2:00PM  

Education Requirements: High School Diploma

Other Requirements:

  • Valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
  • Serv Safe Certification which can be obtained upon hire and will be paid for by the Division of Senior Services
