Summer Camp Educator (Per Diem/Seasonal) – County of Bergen Department of Parks – Division of Bergen County Zoo

Under the direction of the Zoo Education Staff, Per Diem and Seasonal educators’ primary responsibility will be teaching curriculum to both private and public groups in addition to performing all duties necessary to provide our guests with outstanding Amphitheater experiences and Birthday Parties; does other related duties.

Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

  • Teach weekly themed pre-approved curriculum for zoo camp.
  • Develop and teach curriculum for camp.
  • Lead and supervise crafts, games, and activities relevant to zoo camp.
  • Daily set-up and clean-up of classroom space and program materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working space.
  • Occasional organizational and clerical tasks.
  • Attend all staff trainings.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team member.
  • Project a professional image that reflects positively on the Zoo and County of Bergen.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • College student or graduate working towards a degree in education, animal sciences, environmental science, biology, or a related field.

  • Comfortable handling live animals, including invertebrates and reptiles if applicable.

Schedule:

  • Per Diem
    • Hours, up to 19 hours per week. May work weekends and/or nights.
  • Seasonal
    • Hours, between 29 or 40 hours per week. May work weekends and/or nights.

Other:

  • The ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, up to three or more hours.
  • Ability to use basic office equipment (e.g. computer, copy machine, fax).
  • Willingness to be open-minded and flexible.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
