Senior Engineer – Bridges - Division of Engineering

The Bergen County Department Planning and Engineering is seeking a Structural (Bridge) Engineer with 10 years' experience and Professional Engineer's License to join the County Engineering Division located in Hackensack, New Jersey. The candidate is required to possess thorough knowledge of NJDOT design standards for steel and concrete structures and NJDOT Standard Specification for Road and Bridge Construction. Responsibilities include reviewing concept plans, preliminary and final engineering plans, structural calculations, technical specifications, engineer's estimates, etc. prepared by engineering consultants for complete bridge replacements and rehabilitations. Responsible to oversee all phases of project development including scheduling, planning, design, permitting, technical specifications, inspection, contract plans and documents, cost estimates, and DOT/FHWA compliance.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • BS in Civil Engineering. MS in Structural Engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with NJDOT design standards, procedures and requirements.
  • Experience with current NJDOT Design Exception Manual.
  • Experience with current AASHTO Geometric Design of Highways and Streets manual
  • Experience with current AASHTO LRFD design code, LRFR, and NJDOT manuals and procedures.
  • Experience with NJDOT County Aid and Local Bridge Fund (LBF) grant requirements and compliance.
  • Experience in Micro Station and AutoCAD. Experience in Primavera Project schedule is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess a Professional Engineer's license in the state of New Jersey or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
