Maintenance Repairer/Mechanic - County of Bergen Department of Public Works – Division of Mechanical Services

Under the direction of the maintenance supervisor, performs a variety of routine mechanical maintenance and repair tasks and/or other types of maintenance work; does other related work as required.

Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

• Obtains description of mechanical problems from the operators of the train and carousel and/or test drives the rides to analyzes and identifies the problem.
• Removes, cleans or replaces defective parts such as plugs, wheel cylinders, brakes, etc.
• May provide guidance and instruction to those assigned as mechanic helpers.
• Repairs or replaces parts as needed using mechanical hand tools.
• Replaces light bulbs, fuses, wall plates, fixture cords and switches on equipment and amusement rides.
• Cleans tools and equipment.
• General knowledge of mechanical aspects and tools.
• Maintains essential records and files.
• Skill to conduct proper diagnostic on equipment and amusement rides.
• Disassembles units to inspect parts for wear and repair/replace as needed.
• Consults manufacturer or other manuals to identify replacement parts and tolerance of components.
• Selects and makes repairs in accordance with appropriate repairs specifications, manuals and procedures.
• In making repairs, uses a variety of tools, equipment and testing devices to conduct appropriate and necessary repairs.

Schedule:

• Full Time – OT as needed.

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma.
• At least three (3) years of mechanical background experience.

Other Requirements:

• NJ Driver’s License.
• NAARSO certification for Amusement Rides.
