Bergen County Recognizes Anniversary of September 11

 

(Overpeck County Park) – On September 11, 2018, the County of Bergen recognized the anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 with its annual memorial ceremony, held in Overpeck County Park at the World Trade Center monument.

The event began with the Presentation of Colors by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard. Mayor George Fosdick of Ridgefield Park led the Pledge of Allegiance. An invocation was given by Father Thomas Norton, the chaplain of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association. The speaking program began with Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, who reflected on the loss of 147 Bergen County residents. County Executive Tedesco’s granddaughter, Haley Tedesco Santos of Paramus, read a memorial greeting from Governor Phil Murphy. Reverend Donna West of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack and Imam Shaykh Moutaz Charaf of the El-Zahra Islamic Center in Midland Park addressed the crowd with words of comfort and inspiration. Bergen County Freeholder Joan Voss concluded the speaking program, before Father Roy Regaspi of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church offered a benediction. Michelle Galvis of Hackensack and Jiny Yu of Leonia sang at the event, while the Hope String Ensemble provided music. Paramus Girl Scout Troop 95940 and Ridgefield Park Girl Scout Troop 96036 assisted with laying wreaths and flowers at the monument. Included below are photos of the event.
