Passaic Street to be closed for railroad crossing repairs this week in Hackensack, Bergen County
Detours near Hackensack University Medical Center during construction
(Trenton) – Passaic Street is scheduled to be closed and detoured this week between Park Street and Linden Street near the Hackensack Medical Center in Hackensack, Bergen County.
Beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 3, until 9 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, Passaic Street will be closed in both directions between Park Street and Linden Street to remove the existing railroad crossing. This closure will allow NJ TRANSIT to reconstruct the crossing and approaches. Access will be maintained for local traffic. The following detours will be in place:
Passaic Street eastbound detour:
- Motorists on Passaic Street eastbound will be directed to turn left onto Linden Street
- Turn right onto Anderson Street
- Turn right onto Union Street, back to Passaic Street
Passaic Street westbound detour:
- Motorists on Passaic Street westbound will be directed to turn right onto Union Street
- Turn left onto Anderson Street
- Turn left onto Linden Street, back to Passaic Street
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 50 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NewJerseyDOT and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
