(GARFIELD, N.J.) – County Executive Jim Tedesco and members of the Board of Commissioners recently presented a ceremonial check for $197,153 from the Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund (OSTF) to Garfield Mayor Richard Rigoglioso, members of the City Council, and volunteers from the Garfield Little League.
The City of Garfield received the grant for a municipal park improvement. The grant will fund renovations at Joseph La Faso Field including the installation of synthetic turf, new fencing, protective netting, and ADA-accessible bleachers.
“The Bergen Open Space Grant Program is a wonderful resource that helps the County advance its mission to enhance local parks, protect natural habitats, and ensure that our public spaces are accessible and enjoyable for all residents,” said Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco. “Our commitment to partnering with municipalities like Garfield demonstrates our dedication to preserving and improving the quality of life for communities across the county.”
“We are deeply appreciative of the continued support from County Executive Tedesco and the Bergen County Board of Commissioners in securing this essential funding for Garfield,” said Mayor Richard Rigoglioso. “These improvements to Joseph LaFaso Field will greatly enhance our recreational spaces, making them safer and more accessible for all residents. This investment is a testament to the county's commitment to preserving and enhancing open spaces in communities like ours across Bergen County.”
“Investing in our open spaces is not just about recreation, it’s about creating lasting environmental and community benefits,” said Commissioner Steve Tanelli. “This funding will help Garfield transform Joseph LaFaso Field into a modern and inclusive recreational space. Thanks to County Executive Tedesco and the collaboration with local leaders, we are ensuring that every resident can take pride in their local parks and enjoy them for generations to come.”
