FREE “MUSIC AT THE BARN” CONCLUDES SEASON WITH CROWD FAVORITE

14^th Annual Bluegrass & Cider concert on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Wortendyke Barn, Park Ridge

(HACKENSACK, NJ) – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, and the Board of Commissioners in partnership with the County’s Division of Historic and Cultural Affairs invite the public to attend a free music concert featuring the Cider Barn Band on Sunday, October 27, from 1pm - 3:30pm at the Wortendyke Barn Museum, a County Historic Site at 13 Pascack Rd, Park Ridge, N.J. This is the last concert in the 2024 music series.

Limited seating is available; people are welcome to bring chairs/blankets.

The performance on Sunday will mark the 14^th Annual “Bluegrass and Cider” at the Wortendyke Barn and will feature four consummate bluegrass artists and longtime friends of this yearly Wortendyke Barn tradition: Kenny Kosek on fiddle; Barry Mitterhoff, mandolin; Joe Selly, guitar; and Terry McGill on banjo (replacing Marty Cutler).

Kenny Kosek is one of the most recorded fiddlers in America today, having been the featured soloist on hundreds of albums, soundtracks and jingles. He can be heard on recordings by James Taylor, Jerry Garcia, David Byrne, Chaka Kahn, and Willie Nelson and also plays with his own Angelwood bluegrass band.

Barry Mitterhoff is a well-known and versatile mandolin player who has toured with the blues-rock band Hot Tuna and has played with Tony Trischka and Skyline, John Gorka, Jorma Kaukonen, and Hazel Dickens. He has been a featured performer at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the White House, the Library of Congress, and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Guitarist Joe Selly, a professor at Bergen Community College, has performed with Phoebe Snow, Vassar Clements, Barbara Eden, Melissa Manchester, and Tex Logan, and toured nationally with the Lombardo Orchestra

Unfortunately, bandmember Marty Cutler is unable to join the group this year. Stepping in to replace him on banjo is Terry McGill. Terry is one of the most well-known banjo players in the Northeast and has released two recordings for Cabinwood Music. Terry has a long history in bluegrass, both as a performer and radio host. He also has an instructional manual, Alternate Tunings for Five-string Banjo, available from Mel Bay Publications. Terry’s 2001 solo recording “Straight Drive” has received airplay nationwide.

The Wortendyke Barn has been a Pascack Valley landmark since its construction on 500 acres of land bought by the Wortendyke family in 1735.  It was used continually as a barn into the 20^th century and is one of only six pure Dutch barn types in Bergen County.  In 1997, the barn opened as a museum with agriculture exhibits that include 18^th and 19^th century farm implements and tools, and the history of the Wortendyke family farm.
