Thank you for your interest in making film, TV, and digital media in Bergen County!
The Bergen County Film office was launched in 2019 to serve as a point of contact for entertainment creators looking to do business in Bergen County.
We are happy to assist you and your production with accessing County facilities for scouting or filming requests, filming logistics, contact with local officials and business owners, promotion opportunities, and more.
Bergen County has a lot to offer filmmakers, from the forests and mountains in the Ramapo area to the Meadowlands, to the cliffs of the Palisades. Bergen County, home to nearly 1 million residents, has numerous attractive filming locations including historic sites, urban streetscapes, quiet suburban streets, world-class shopping malls and retail locations, and ample parks and recreation areas.
We can offer a multitude of locations to fit your filming needs, all within easy access to New York City, Teterboro and Newark Airports, and other transportation options.

Permitting
Please see below for the film permit, for use for:
- Filming at County parks
- Filming in County facilities
- Filming in the Bergen County Courthouse or Old Jail (please note that the Courthouse complex is typically not available for daytime shoots, but filming may be permitted on nights or weekends)
NOTE: for any other filming requests, or if you are unsure if a desired location is County property, please email BCFilmOffice@bergencountynj.gov and we will be happy to assist you.
Please see below for filming requirements:
- A completed Film Permit Application containing a detailed description of the project, requested filming dates/times, and any special conditions such as practical/special effects, requested building alterations, electrical utility hookups, etc.
- Certificate of Liability Insurance in the amount of $1 million dollars (minimum) naming Bergen County as an additional insured.
- A signed Hold Harmless & Indemnification Agreement
- Payment of permitting fee of $250.00/$750.00/$1,500.00 per day (partial or whole) of use, depending on crew size
- All areas used must be restored to their original state, and the County of Bergen must be reimbursed for any out-of-pocket expenses or damages incurred directly relating to the filming
- Reimbursement of security and manpower fees, as applicable

The State of New Jersey Film & Television Commission offers financial incentives for those who make films and digital media in New Jersey, and can offer logistical and other support for filmmaking across the state.

History
Bergen County has a rich and storied history with the film industry. Nearly 100 years ago, Fort Lee was the motion picture capital of America, with numerous studios and production companies dotted along the Palisades.
