DISASTER RELIEF AVAILABLE TO BERGEN COUNTY RESIDENTS
(HACKENSACK, NJ) – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Board of County Commissioners urge residents and business owners impacted by Hurricane IDA to apply for Federal disaster relief. Over the weekend, the County of Bergen received a major disaster declaration from President Biden. The action releases Federal funding to those in Bergen County who sustained losses from September 1 to September 3 as a result of Hurricane Ida. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
Bergen County residents and business owners can apply for disaster relief directly by visiting www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice. FEMA has also dispatched a mobile assistance unit to Bergen County to answer questions and help residents complete disaster relief applications in-person. The unit will be stationed at the Lodi Shop Rite located at 175 Main Street, Lodi from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8. An announcement regarding additional locations will be forthcoming.
PSE&G has also set up a Customer Care Center at Samuel Nelkin County Park at the corner of Rose Street and Maple Avenue in Wallington. The Customer Care Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8. Residents and business owners can visit the Customer Care Center to escalate issues or request visits to their home if they are ready for PSE&G to come back and restore gas service. Residents can also come by with general questions about progress, as well as payment assistance options available. Residents may also visit www.pseg.com/Ida-GasRestoration for more information.
