Community Development

Mission

Our mission is to collaborate with towns, agencies, and citizens to improve Bergen County’s quality of life by using federal grant funding to advance key initiatives that revitalize neighborhoods and municipal facilities, build local economies, bolster social services, upgrade housing, and create access and opportunity for those in need.

Overview

The Bergen County Division of Community Development (BCDCD) is wholly funded by annual grant revenues received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  It is the seventh largest urban county recipient of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnership (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funding in the nation.

BCDCD provides a comprehensive and flexible source of application-based funding for Bergen County municipalities and eligible non-profits, government agencies, and residents to address a myriad of community, housing, and economic development needs. Predominantly serving low and moderate income neighborhoods and residents, its programs serve as valuable tools to empower people to create a better quality of life.

In conformity with HUD financial practices, BCDCD operates on a July 1st through June 30th fiscal year.
