Operations

The Operations Division will continue to provide for the safe passage of residents and visitors on County roadways through various infrastructure improvements to improve the safety and the movement of traffic through county roadways.   The Operations Division has been reorganized by creating a new Heavy Equipment Division, merging Parks Department personnel into the new Sign Shop and moving Shade Tree Division to the Parks Department while continuing to have a Maintenance Division.  These moves should make this department more efficient and productive.

The Operations Division schedules the inspection, maintenance and repair of approximately 439 miles of county roads for the safety of the residents of Bergen County in a cost-effective manner. We are also responsible for the maintenance and repair of approximately 12,000 catch basins. The division also works closely with the Engineering Department on the maintenance and repair of culverts and bridges where we oversee maintenance contracts.  Crews respond to all emergency issues that occur on County roads 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
