Carlton Hill Bergen County Greenway
PROJECT STATUS
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Carlton Avenue Greenway is a 1.2 mile stretch of abandoned rail line that was acquired by the Bergen County Parks Department with assistance from the Open Space Institute and the Boroughs of Rutherford and East Rutherford. Bergen County will be applying for a Parks Development Grant from New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres program to assist with the development of the future Greenway.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The Bergen County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 7:00pm, Wednesday, January 17th, 2024, during a regularly scheduled Commissioner meeting. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain public comment on a grant application to be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres Program. The application will be for a Park Development Grant at the Carlton Hill Bergen County Greenway Park, located near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and West Erie Avenue in the Borough of East Rutherford and the Borough of Rutherford.
The Division of Land Management will make a brief presentation followed by a question-and-answer period. All residents are encouraged to attend and participate.
Those wishing to listen and/or participate should report to the Bergen County Administration Building, One Bergen County Plaza, Public Meeting Room, Fifth Floor, Hackensack, New Jersey, 07601.

The Bergen County Department of Parks will be conducting a community survey through February 2024 regarding the composition of the proposed greenway and potential features to be included.
