PROJECT BACKGROUND

As part of capital improvements to be undertaken at Saddle River County Park – Otto C. Pehle Area, located in the Township of Saddle Brook, the existing playground will be replaced with a new structure that will be compliant with the standards outlined in Jake’s Law. Jake’s Law, passed in 2019, encourages counties and municipalities to build Completely Inclusive Playgrounds. The standards, set forth by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, can be found here.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The Bergen County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 7:00pm, Wednesday, January 17th, 2024, during a regularly scheduled Commissioner meeting. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain public comment on a grant application to be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres Program. The application will be for a Completely Inclusive Playground at Saddle Brook County Park – Otto C. Pehle Area, located in the Township of Saddle Brook.

The Division of Land Management will make a brief presentation followed by a question-and-answer period. All residents are encouraged to attend and participate.

Those wishing to listen and/or participate should report to the Bergen County Administration Building, One Bergen County Plaza, Public Meeting Room, Fifth Floor, Hackensack, New Jersey, 07601.

Written comments to the County may be submitted on or before the date of the public hearing, or a request for additional information may be directed to the Bergen County Department of Parks, Bergen County Administration Building, One Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack, NJ 07601, Attn: Adam Strobel, Division of Land Management or by email to astrobel@co.bergen.nj.us.

The Bergen County Department of Parks will be conducting a community survey through February 2024 regarding the composition of the Completely Inclusive Playground and potential features to be included.
