Regarding Surrenders: If you reside in one of the contracted municipalities with the Animal Shelter and would like information regarding the surrender of your pet, please contact the shelter at 201-229-4601. Please be advised all surrenders will be by appointment after the phone interview.
Strays/Reclaims: If you have a lost/stray pet situation, please contact the shelter at 201-229-4600 to complete a lost pet form over the phone. If there is a stray pet in the building that meets your description, we can provide a picture and will discuss reclaim procedures over the phone. We will then make an appointment for you to reclaim your pet. Please be advised that one of our missions is reuniting lost pets with their owners and we will continue to uphold that mission.
Please note the Shelter is under 24/7 surveillance and security patrol and under no circumstances should the public leave any animal unattended.
Who We Are
Opened in 1979, the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center (BCAS) is responsible for Animal Control and related services for 49 towns in Bergen and Hudson Counties. Located at 100 United Lane in Teterboro, NJ, BCAS has an active network of Rescues, Volunteers, Kitten Foster Families, and Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) colonies to support the employees and animals in our care. The Shelter earned its No-Kill designation under the guidelines of the Asilmar Accords in 2015.
The mission of BCAS is to:
- Promote the humane treatment of all animals
- Reunite lost pets with owners
- Encourage adoption, foster care and wildlife rehabilitation
- Reduce animal populations through spay/neuter (TNR) and education of the public in animal welfare
- Support the community in responsible pet ownership
The Shelter has the capacity to house up to 90 dogs and 350 cats at any given time.
Please visit our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BCAnimalShelter/) for current photos of available and adopted pets as well as updates on events going on at the Shelter.
Adopt A Pet:
BCAS finds homes for a variety of animals, including cats, kittens, dogs, young adult dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, canaries, parakeets and ferrets. It will periodically receive more exotic-type animals, including chinchillas, parrots, bearded dragons, hedgehogs, snakes and hermit crabs, among others.
